Baby Formula and Dermatitis

Exponent epidemiologists, food scientists, and biostatisticians qualitatively and quantitatively examined the incidence of allergic manifestations, specifically atopic dermatitis, among infants fed partially hydrolyzed whey protein formula compared with infants fed intact cow’s milk protein formula. In all identified studies, a reduced risk of atopic dermatitis through six months of age and beyond was observed among infants fed partially hydrolyzed whey protein formula. Based on the totality of the scientific evidence, the incidence of atopic dermatitis is lower among infants who are fed partially hydrolyzed whey protein formula compared with infants who are fed intact cow’s milk protein formula.
