Engineering Mechanics

Overview

Exponent’s engineering mechanics staff manages and executes projects involving evaluation of the effects of loads on systems or products, ranging from medical devices to commercial aircraft. The team comprises an interdisciplinary staff with experience in applying its integrated capabilities to a breadth of engineering issues.

Our projects range from modeling fluid flow characteristics in a system, to predicting the remaining lifetime of structures and components, to establishing design and operating envelopes for processes and technologies. In addition to work for commercial clients, we are active in research and development, which enables Exponent to remain innovative and effective in meeting clients’ needs.

Our services include:

  • Component/structure lifetime prediction

  • Impact and penetration analysis
  • Continuum mechanics

  • Materials defect evaluation
  • Damage assessment

  • Non-destructive evaluation
  • Design review

  • Stress analysis
  • Finite element analysis

  • Structural integrity prediction
  • Engineering design evaluation

  • Blast and explosion analysis

Exponent engineers make extensive use of computers to perform analyses and analyze data of all types. Our staff has access to both commercial and custom applications software. Engineers are able to select the best analytical tool for each project. Furthermore, Exponent’s laboratory facilities enable scientists and engineers to obtain superior experimental results that can be used to supplement or validate analytical results or to provide needed input to analyses.
