News

April 16, 2012

Exponent Principal Engineer Dr. Trey Morrison was the Global Congress Chair presiding over the 8th Global Congress on Process Safety in Houston, Texas from April 1-4, 2012. This annual conference, sponsored by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, welcomed 900 attendees to the George R. Brown Convention Center to share new developments, lessons learned, and best practices in chemical process safety, risk analysis and loss prevention. The Global Congress is composed of three distinct symposia, the 46th Loss Prevention Symposium, the 27th Center for Chemical Process Safety International Conference, and the 14th Process Plant Safety Symposium.

Dr. Morrison was joined by several Exponent colleagues, including Dr. Carlos Barrera, who chaired the young professionals education track entitled Process Safety Management Mentoring (PSM2). Exponent engineers contributed seven unique technical papers & presentations to the program covering varied topics including fire and explosion hazards, layer of protection analysis, process hazard analysis, reactive chemical hazards, and thermal stability hazards. Dr. Russell Ogle, Principal Engineer, presented a case study paper to the full Global Congress in the Joint Case Studies and Lessons Learned Session that discussed flammability hazards of heated combustible liquids. Dr. Ogle was also awarded a plaque for the William H. Doyle Award for the best paper given at the 45th Loss Prevention Symposium held in 2011 at the start of this year’s Global Congress.

The Conference Proceedings can be found at 8th Global Congress on Process Safety Proceedings. Here are a summary of the technical contributions and primary authors/presenters. Please feel free to contact them directly to inquire about their work.
