A New Energy Paradigm for the European Union and East-Central Europe?

September 2, 2011

Dr. Piotr Moncarz, Corporate Vice President and Principal Engineer, will be the featured speaker at the September 14th meeting of The Commonwealth Club of California.  Dr. Moncarz will discuss a global economic perspective on the European Union’s dream of clean, efficient and renewable energy: Where is it within the climate challenge of coal, politicized natural gas supply and nuclear power? Will the huge amount of shale gas being developed by U.S. firms in Poland tilt the scale? The answers to these questions are critical to Eastern Europe in light of its coal dependence, aging power transmission and generation infrastructure, and the arrival of mass-produced electric cars.

For over 15 years, Dr. Moncarz has worked on projects associated with energy. He leads Exponent’s Energy Initiative Program which includes electric power plants, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), oil, natural gas, shale gas, and renewable resources. Dr. Moncarz has conducted energy policy studies focusing on gas for Central Asian Republics and Bangladesh. Dr. Moncarz is also the Chairman of the U.S-Polish Trade Council

The meeting is sponsored by the Environment & Natural Resources/International Relations Group of the Commonwealth Club.  The Commonwealth Club of California is the nation's oldest and largest public affairs forum. The bring over 400 annual events on topics ranging across politics, culture, society and the economy to 15,000 members.
