Exponent Engineer Co-Authors New Engineering Textbook

February 29, 2012

Thoroughly updated, the 5th Edition of Deformation and Fracture Mechanics of Engineering Materials, a respected text by Richard Hertzberg, Richard Vinci, and Jason Hertzberg, is a unique book that combines both continuum aspects of mechanical behavior and a materials science approach to problem solving—a prerequisite for the complete understanding of complex deformation and fracture processes.

This 5th Edition provides improved integration of different classes of materials, deeper coverage of the mechanics of plastic deformation, new discussion of emerging nano- and biomimetic materials, and a new chapter on the consequences of failure that covers a historical perspective of product liability law and provides an overview of the product recall process.

The textbook will be available for purchase in April; please see the Wiley website for pre-purchase information.

Dr. Jason L. Hertzberg is a Corporate Vice President, Principal Engineer, and the Director of Exponent’s Mechanical Engineering practice. Dr. Hertzberg has extensive experience solving complex technical problems in a variety of industries including consumer products, medical devices, industrial equipment and systems, and technology product development.
