November 27, 2012

Mr. Brad McGoran recently gave an interview to CR80News (Campus Cards, College and University Identification and Security). The article, "Contactless Failure on Campus? ” examines the pros and cons of contactless smartcards.

Mr. McGoran is a Principal Engineer in Exponent’s Technology development practice—a practice, that among many other things, evaluates smart chip-based credentials, readers, and secure identity systems for durability, reliability, and conformance to industry standards.

Mr. McGoran was asked specifically about the failure rates and modes of contactless cards, saying that the “Failure rates of these technologies are dominated by the failure rates of the underlying card body itself.” Mr. McGoran advises proper pre-deployment component and system-level testing to help ensure program reliability and success.
