Exponent recently investigated a large-scale product failure incident case. In some incidents, a critical component in this consumer product produces excessive heat and emits hot gas that can potentially injure people.
Our staff went to the manufacturing plant of the component supplier, and reviewed historical quality control data in its production line. We analyzed component defect rates over time. We located a production period that potentially made the final products susceptible to thermal incident event. This led to information which allowed us to identify the root cause of the failures.
