Stanford University
Old Union Building
Room 209

Dr. Brad James, Principal Engineer in Exponent's Mechanics & Materials practice, will be presenting an ASM Short Course: Medical Device Design Validation and Failure Analysis, on September 10th at Stanford University.

Overview

This course will review the basics of stress analysis, fracture mechanics, fatigue, corrosion, electrochemistry and their application for medical device design validation. Several case studies with specific device design and validation approaches will be given. This course will also examine why medical devices and instruments fail, and will provide the student with the tools to identify failure mechanisms and perform a failure analysis. We will examine general failure analysis investigational procedures, a wide range of macroscopic and microscopic analysis techniques, and the specific loading and environmental conditions unique to medical devices and instruments.
