Military Product Design

Overview

Exponent has a long and successful record of bringing commercial off the shelf (COTS) technologies to bear in new and powerful ways for our customers; however, not all needs can be met by existing products. When it is not possible to leverage COTS technologies, Exponent is capable of providing in-house development of systems to meet specific customer needs.

Exponent’s Technology Development practice is home to engineers with a wide range of design specialties, including mechanics and mechanisms, robotics, automotive, aerospace, electrical, and software. We are also able to draw on the broader range of specialties contained within other practices at Exponent. This breadth and depth allows our engineers to explore numerous design alternatives before narrowing the field to a set of solutions that best meet our client’s needs.

Exponent has extensive experience with the design cycle from beginning to end. Technology Development engineers are experienced with product specification and concept development, prototyping, destructive and non-destructive testing, and product deployment. In-house support facilities allow Exponent to undertake any and all of these tasks quickly. Our customers often demand prototypes on accelerated schedules—sometimes within days—and our experience and support facilities allow us to consistently meet this need.

Possibly the most powerful tool Exponent offers our customers is our involvement of product end users into our design process. Exponent engineers work hand-in-hand with war-fighters in Iraq, Afghanistan, and domestic locations to ensure that our products meet the rigorous demands of military personnel. This affords Exponent a nearly unprecedented ability to turn real-world needs into reality, at a speed few others can match.
