Robotics

Overview

Exponent currently provides two robotic platforms to the US military: the MARCbot (Multi-function Agile Remote Control Robot) and the LVUSS (Long-Range Vehicle Undercarriage Surveillance System).

As with Exponent’s mechanical design capabilities, our robotic design capabilities are able to cover a wide range of requirements; from integration of COTs components to development of an entirely new system from the ground up. Our approach to the design of novel robotic systems draws on both our experience with physical hardware and software as well as our experience with the real-world application of these devices.

Exponent has designed and fielded a wide range of mobile robots; as both one-of-a-kind prototypes and production models. We have developed machines using conventional locomotion systems such as wheels and tracks, as well as more unusual systems such as legged and bio-mimetic robots. Our experience also includes aerial robots, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles/Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAVs/UASs).

In addition to the mechanical and electrical expertise necessary for the development of robotic hardware, Exponent offers full software development capabilities. With expertise ranging from control algorithms to kinematic and dynamic simulation, Exponent can provide full software support for any robotic endeavor.

Exponent offers far more than the common “shoebox on wheels” approach to robotic system design. Our thorough understanding of all aspects of robotic design will yield a system ready for immersion in some of the world’s harshest environments; and our intimate understanding of our customer’s needs will ensure a robot able to stand up to the most demanding of requirements.
