Understanding and Designing Steel Concentric Braced Frames

Dr. Patxi Uriz,  Managing Engineer in Exponent's Buildings and Structures practice, will be the inaugural speaker for the first in a series of SEAOC Blue Book Webinars on June 10th.   SEAOC (Structural Engineering Association of California) is respected as an authoritative world leader in the practice of structural and earthquake engineering, as a nationally influential participant in structural code and standard development and as a valuable resource to practicing structural engineers in California.

Based on The SEAOC Blue Book Article “Concentrically Braced Frames”, this presentation will provide an overview of past performance, compare and contrast design assumptions to fundamental behavior, discuss how analytical methods influence design, and present recommendations for designers. In addition, an overview will be provided of recent and on-going research efforts from around the world.  Dr. Uriz has extensive experience with non-linear analysis, and performance-based design and assessment of steel, reinforced concrete, and wood frame structures and expertise in the design, instrumentation, and testing of large scale laboratory experiments.

Since first published in 1959, the SEAOC Blue Book has been a premier source of guidance for seismic engineering. The SEAOC Blue Book is available on the SEAOC website
