Exponent Selected as One of Forbes 200 Best Small Companies

MENLO PARK, Calif., October 27, 2003- Exponent, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXPO), today announced that it has recently been selected by Forbes as one of the "200 Best Small Companies" in America for 2003.  The full list and selection criteria are published in the October 27, 2003 issue of Forbes magazine.

Gaulke.   "We are proud of this achievement and believe that it is a testament to Exponent's continued commitment to provide our customers with the highest level of consulting expertise in a wide range of disciplines."

To qualify for the Forbes 200 Best Small Companies list, companies are evaluated based on growth in sales, earnings and return on equity for the previous twelve-month and five-year periods.  Specifically, companies must have recent twelve-month sales between $5 million and $600 million, as well as a share price above $5.00, and a five-year return on equity of at least five percent.
