"One knee doesn't fit all"
The Herald Mail article, "One knee doesn't fit all", details the knee replacement options targeted specifically for women. Companies are now offering 'just-for-her' knee implants in addition to the universal implants used in an effort to accommodate differing shapes of men's and women's knees and discomfort issues. The article references an Exponent study that knee replacements are projected to grow to 3.5 million by 2030.

Exponent Welcomes Dr. Suresh H. Moolgavkar
Exponent is proud to welcome Dr. Suresh H. Moolgavkar as Corporate Vice President and Director of the Center for Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Computational Biology.
Dr. Moolgavkar has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of epidemiology, biostatistics, and quantitative risk assessment. He is internationally known for his work in developing mechanistically based dose-response models for carcinogenesis, and, in particular, for the two-mutation clonal expansion model, also known as the Moolgavkar-Venzon-Knudson (MVK) model. For the past decade, Dr. Moolgavkar has also been keenly interested in the analyses of the association between various indices of air pollution and human health effects. Since 1984 he has been a Member of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and a Professor of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of Washington. He has served on the faculties of Johns Hopkins University, Indiana University, University of Pennsylvania, and Fox Chase Cancer Center, and has been a visiting scientist at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation in Hiroshima , the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, and the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. Dr. Moolgavkar is the author or co-author of over 150 papers in the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics, and quantitative risk assessment, and has edited three books in these areas. He was given the Founders' Award by the CIIT Centers for Health Research in 1990 and the Distinguished Achievement Award by the Society for Risk Analysis in 2001.

"Nuclear disaster was close at hand"
Exponent recently released a study that "reported the Davis-Besse nuclear reactor near Toledo, Ohio was closer than anyone thought to catastrophic failure when workers found extensive corrosion of the reactor's lid in February 2002." The report concluded "that a reactor coolant leak ate through the 6½-inch steel lid - leaving a thin stainless-steel liner."

Celebrating 40 Years of Engineering & Scientific Excellence

Around the first of April 1967, five colleagues from Stanford University and the Stanford Research Institute got together over lunch and hatched an idea for a new type of engineering consulting firm. They named it Failure Analysis Associates. Now, 40 years later, we celebrate our growth from a team of five, to more than 700. We have expanded our services from mechanical engineering and metallurgy to over 90 technical disciplines. We now operate across the US as well as the UK, Germany and China. Along the way we have broadened our capabilities in the areas of engineering, environmental science and health. We also play a role in developing technology to support our US Defense Department around the globe. We are considered one of the finest, and respected engineering and scientific consulting firms in the world.
We would like to thank our founders for getting us here. We particularly applaud our highly talented and motivated team, our clients and investors for their support in getting us to this significant milestone.

"Projections of Primary and Revision Hip and Knee Arthroplasty in the United States from 2005 to 2030"

Exponent engineers and scientists Steven M. Kurtz, Ph.D., Kevin L. Ong, Ph.D., Edmund C. Lau, M.S., Fionna S. Mowat, Ph.D., E.I.T. and Michael Halpern, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H. recently published an article in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery on the projected increase in the number of revision total hip and knee arthroplasties performed in the United States. The purpose of this study was to formulate projections for the number of primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasties that will be performed in the United States through 2030.
