Learn to be a Consultant

Exponent hires engineers and scientists with all levels of experience. Some are established consultants, others have strong industrial experience, and many are individuals early in their careers.

Recent graduates sometimes ask if they have enough experience to join a consulting firm. They often wonder if several years of industry work is required prior to a career in technical consulting. The expertise that Exponent provides to our clients is built on the technical knowledge and problem-solving skills of our staff and not just their prior work experience. In fact, we hire a large number of graduates who have recently obtained their advanced degrees or completed postdoctoral academic research. Many of our most successful consultants joined Exponent directly following their graduate studies. We train new consultants by immediately integrating them into projects. They learn by working side-by-side with Exponent's Principals and other experienced and accomplished staff members.

We also have an established group mentoring program that allows our top engineers and scientists to further develop the skills and knowledge they need to advance their careers. This program is driven by the participants and allows them to utilize internal and external resources to expand their consulting skills. Former participants have rapidly advanced to senior leadership positions within the firm and some have become mentors in the program.

Exponent's multidisciplinary environment also gives experienced technical professionals and established consultants a great chance to continue their learning and development. The technical breadth and depth of our engineering and scientific staff gives even the most experienced consultant a rare opportunity to work on projects and with clients that are unique to Exponent.
