The Civil Engineering Practice is comprised of consultants with a diverse technical background. A majority of our consultants possess a Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Civil Engineering or Geology and hold professional licenses from various states. We work together in a highly integrated manner within the practice and often work in a multidisciplinary setting with several other practices as well. In addition to the practice's technical consulting work, there is a large emphasis on professional development. Many of our consultants have held academic appointments at various universities and some continue to do so while at Exponent. Many of us are also involved in professional societies and task committees. Our consultants are very diligent about publishing their work in peer-reviewed publications. We also attend and give technical presentations at various conferences each year. Joining our practice would provide you the opportunity to work with an elite group of well-known individuals in the geotechnical and water resources engineering community.

The Civil Engineering Practice performs technical consulting work in geology, geotechnical engineering, and water resources engineering. In geotechnical engineering, we conduct technical investigations on foundations and retaining structures, landslides and slope stability, failures in pipelines, tunnels and underground structures, deep excavations and urban construction defects, analysis of dams, levees and basins, and corrosion of buried structures. An in-house, state-of-the-art soils testing laboratory facilitates our evaluation work. The focus of our water resources engineering expertise is on flood hazard analysis and floodplain management. This includes FEMA flood insurance studies and policy, comprehensive modeling for hydrodynamics, sediment and pollutant transport, wetlands assessment and restoration, assessment of wildland fire impacts, storm surge modeling, and dredging-disposal issues. We bring a high level of expertise with an array of modeling tools and analysis techniques. We have conducted high profile water resources engineering studies both nationally and internationally.
