Dr. Carling is an inorganic chemist and specializes in the registration of new chemical substances under both the EU REACH scheme and worldwide chemical notification schemes. She is particularly experienced with the Australian and Canadian notification schemes, and is also proficient in the use of IUCLID 5 and the REACH-IT interface used for the generation and submission of REACH registration dossiers.
An integral part of Dr. Carling’s work is to liaise with the regulatory authorities to facilitate the approval of submissions, and in doing this she has built up a good rapport with many worldwide Competent Authorities. She is also responsible for providing advice on polymer notifications, nanotechnology, and the use of Quantitative Structure Activity Relationships (QSARs).
Dr Carling’s PhD was conducted at the University of Nottingham and her research covered the generation of supramolecular networks of transition metal complexes, nano-scale molecular machines, and electrochemistry. She obtained Chartered Chemist status (CChem) in 2009, which involved researching worldwide regulatory strategies for nanomaterials.
Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Carling worked at a UK-based leading Contract Research Organization in the New Chemicals division of the Regulatory Affairs department. She was responsible for the worldwide notification of new chemical substances, EU NONS (notification of new chemical substances) and providing regulatory advice on notification strategy and multiple worldwide registrations.
