Professional Profile

Dr. Shameli’s areas of expertise include automation and control, system identification, and non-destructive testing. He consults on projects involving design, selection, and integration of sensors and development of systems for monitoring, predicting, or assessing failures in industrial structures and machinery. Dr. Shameli’s experience also includes data acquisition and control, signal processing, computer aided design, and finite element analysis. He also has a strong research and industrial background in the areas of eddy current testing, and electromagnetic actuation and sensing.

Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Shameli was a Specialist at Hatch Associates Ltd. in Canada where he worked on development and commissioning of sensing systems, and non-destructive testing and monitoring solutions for metallurgical industries, sewer systems, and subway tunnels. He also worked on projects involving ultrasonic testing, ground penetrating radar, thermal imaging, and finite element analysis.

Dr. Shameli’s academic research focused on application of magnetic telemanipulation in remote positioning of levitated robots. His Ph.D. work involved optimal design of electromagnetic rotors and stators and development of nonlinear control methods to achieve micro scale positioning accuracy.
