Effective Matrix View of Attribute Data
A medical device company came to Exponent to assist them with analysis of data obtained during clinical trials of their new medical device.
Exponent personnel developed a unique Matrix chart to effectively use color-coding for presenting multi-dimensional attribute data. The medical device company utilized this chart to study a group of patients who participated in treatment with the manufacturer’s medical devices in a series of clinical trials. The device in each trial has its uniqueness in design and type of material. Patients were selected to wear the device on left body part, right body part, or both. An adverse effect could occur in any scenario. The devices are produced in large, medium, and small sizes as indicated in color-coding in this chart. Letter L or R or 2 indicates that an adverse effect occurred on left or right body part or both side respectively. Letter O indicates no adverse effect. Our client has effectively used this matrix chart, as a dashboard view, to present such complex attribute data in meeting presentations and reports.
