Professional Profile

Dr. Lim has extensive expertise in structure-property relationships of polymers in bulk, film, coating, foam, composite and nanocomposite form. He has performed research related to polymer processing and compounding techniques, and has participated in prototype development of soft tissue implants and wound patches. Dr. Lim extensively studied scratch damage to polyolefin surfaces and has co-authored the related ASTM testing standard. He is proficient in polymer characterization and testing methods, including static and dynamic mechanical testing, thermal analysis (e.g., DSC, TGA, DMTA), size exclusion chromatography, various forms of microscopy (e.g., OM, SEM, TEM), surface analysis (e.g., XPS, contact angle goniometry), and linear and non-linear finite element analysis for structural and thermal systems.

Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Lim was a Laboratory Manager/Senior Postdoctoral Fellow with Professor J.E. Puskas at the University of Akron, and a Research Fellow in the Department of Polymer Engineering at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. His research was focused on the development of biocompatible polymer nanocomposites, electrospun nanofiber coatings for biomedical devices, haptics, barrier films, and fatigue performance of biopolymers.
