Mr. Heald is skilled in mechanical engineering and automotive technology. He has earned the 8 credentials from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) necessary to become master certified in Automotive/Light Truck technology. He has conducted multiple single-moving and two-moving-vehicle crash tests, SAE J2422 Heavy Truck Roof Strength evaluation tests, inverted-vehicle drop tests, as well as several component level tests on laminated side windows. He is familiar with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSSs) and has performed FMVSS 201 side pole impact compliance tests for the NHTSA. Mr. Heald has conducted multiple vehicle inspections to determine fire cause and origin, as well as utilized a Vulcan measurement system to measure three-dimensional profiles for crush analysis. He has conducted several accident scene inspections, surveying the topography with a Leica total station to create a three-dimensional environment in AutoCAD for accident reconstruction purposes. He is also trained in the use of the Vetronix Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) system to recover data from airbag modules in certain General Motors and Ford vehicles.
