
Mr. Arruda specializes in the analysis of automotive and aircraft system failures, maintenance of automotive and aviation components, and standard of care of automotive technicians and aviation airframe and powerplant mechanics.
Prior to joining Exponent, Mr. Arruda was an Automotive Service Technician with more than 20 years continuous experience, including co-ownership of J&B Imports. He has held Master Technician positions with Viking Independent and Swedish Autoservice, as well as with several dealerships, including SAAB, Volvo, and Acura. Since 1979, Mr. Arruda has maintained Master Technician status with the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. He is also certified by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic and holds an Inspection Authorization. Mr. Arruda continues to be active in the automotive and aviation maintenance fields.

Performed vehicle inspections, analysis of service records, and evaluations of service facility and technical personnel for vehicles subject to the Song-Beverly Consumer Protection Act and the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act.
Conducted post-accident vehicle inspections for various mechanical deficiencies, including: brake failure, wheel loss, vehicle mechanical breakdown, and vehicle loss of control.
Evaluated post-accident vehicle body and chassis repair for quality and the vehicle’s return to “pre-accident condition.”
Performed vehicle body and chassis evaluations for alleged failure to disclose pre-sale accident damage.
Conducted field surveys for the evaluation of the observed standard of care of auto service facilities such as: auto dealer service departments; tire retailers; independent, and quick service shops.
Performed post crash analysis and causation of an experimental aircraft engine failure. Conducted exemplar engine tests to evaluate alleged failure scenarios.
Constructed test apparatus for installation on certified aircraft including drawings and required documentation for Federal Aviation Administration approval of the installation.
Performed standard of care evaluations of aircraft inspection and maintenance.
