
Ms. Walia has a background in toxicology and human biology, with a strong interest in food and drug related toxicities. Ms. Walia has extensive experience conducting literature searches and writing scientific reports, as well as using a variety of chromatographic and spectrometric techniques including HPLC, TLC, mass and ultra violet spectrometry. Ms. Walia has assisted in the preparation of reports to regulatory authorities including new dietary ingredient notifications (NDI) and Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) affirmation petitions. She also has experience with Exponent’s proprietary software Food Analysis and Residue Evaluation (FARE
TM) and with Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices.
Prior to joining Exponent, Ms. Walia worked in the pharmaceutical industry, as a quality control analyst. She was responsible for testing a variety of solid dose products as per SOPs and in creating and maintaining analytical records. Ms. Walia studied biomedical toxicology at the University of Guelph and was part of a team that created a hazard assessment for substances used in the production and refining of cocaine and heroin.
