GM retained Exponent to determine what type of trunk release mechanism children could identify, touch and operate if they become trapped. Exponent tested 9 different types of escape mechanisms on more than 100 children and identified the need to add a mechanism on the trunk latch that prevents the trunk from shutting unless an adult resets it.
