Pamela J. Mink, Ph.D., M.P.H.

Senior Managing Scientist

Epidemiology & Computational Biology

Professional Profile

Dr. Mink has experience in the design, analysis, and interpretation of epidemiologic studies. Much of her research has focused on hormonally related cancers in women and men. In particular, she has evaluated the roles of hormone replacement therapy, exercise, obesity, and diet in cancer and other major causes of morbidity and mortality. She has also reviewed, both qualitatively and quantitatively (i.e., meta-analysis), epidemiologic studies on occupational and environmental exposures and health-related outcomes. In addition, she has conducted analyses of potential sources of bias in studies of low-level environmental exposures and neurobehavioral test performance in children.

Dr. Mink has more than fifteen years of training and experience in analyzing and interpreting data from large cohort studies and national data sets. In addition, she developed and implemented a protocol for ascertaining cancer cases in a multi-center cohort study, and designed and implemented a nested case-control study within this cohort. She has also analyzed data from a cross-sectional study of physicians and patients in a large midwestern health plan to evaluate factors contributing to cancer screening of female patients.

In addition to her training and experience in epidemiology, Dr. Mink completed two years of graduate coursework and research in cognitive psychology, and two additional years of experience as a research assistant on studies of human memory and cognition. She has also been an adjunct professor and taught an introductory epidemiology course at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute in Washington, DC. Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Mink was a Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Cancer Institute. She has participated on the faculty of the National Cancer Institute’s Summer Curriculum, giving lectures summarizing the literature and ongoing studies regarding the epidemiology, prevention, and control of ovarian cancer, and on the analysis and interpretation of data from epidemiologic studies. Dr. Mink is currently a faculty member of the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia.
