Mr. Starkey is a senior associate in Exponent's Detroit office. He has over a decade of industry experience in automotive vehicle safety with an emphasis on vehicle crashworthiness, vehicle barrier testing, safety defect investigations and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Prior to joining Exponent, Mr. Starkey held the role of Active Safety Performance Engineer at General Motors where he was responsible for coordinating ADAS ratings and metrics through the vehicle development cycle for GM's truck platforms.  At General Motors, Mr. Starkey also held the role of Safety Forensic Engineer.  In this role he was responsible for swift and thorough safety investigations to determine defect trends across various functional areas including restraints, vehicle electrical components, and ADAS.

Mr. Starkey also held a contract role of Safety and Crashworthiness Test Engineer for Nissan.  In this role Mr. Starkey conducted hundreds of barrier crash tests at facilities across North America and participated in instrumentation setup, dummy seating procedures, camera positioning, injury evaluation, and post-crash structural analysis.  Through this experience Mr. Starkey has knowledge of FMVSS and IIHS vehicle testing standards and protocol and gained experience with EDR data acquisition, FARO arm use, and photography.

Mr. Starkey is currently pursuing a M.S. in Mechatronic Systems Engineering from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI.  Mr. Starkey also holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a dual major in Meteorology from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN.
