Overview
For over 30 years, Exponent has provided services related
to the investigation and analysis of mechanical systems behavior
for products ranging from aircraft and marine transportation
to all types of industrial equipment and consumer products.
Our engineers and scientists have both an academic and "real-world"
understanding of all areas of mechanical engineering, including
reliability and hazard evaluation, design assessment, fluid
and thermal analysis, and materials life prediction. This
vast expertise enables us to thoroughly investigate the design
and performance of a plethora of mechanical systems. We use
our experience to provide our clients with a thorough comprehension
of their current or potential designs to determine vulnerabilities
before failures occur, and to develop appropriate mitigation
methods. We also provide the scientific investigation of failures
when they do occur. The real strength of our services lies
in the cross-disciplinary approach we take to solving problems
in the most efficient and accurate way possible.

The Engineering Mechanics staff manages and executes projects
involving evaluation of the effects of loads and stresses
on system or product performance. Whether the product is an
engine, toaster, or medical implant, we provide comprehensive
evaluations to establish the design and operating envelopes
for the process or equipment. Additionally, we offer expertise
in machine and equipment guarding and industrial safety. We
continue to be active in research and development provide
our clients with state-of-the-art techniques for analyzing
problems.
Exponent offers comprehensive design analysis and accident
investigation services specifically tailored for both the
marine and aviation industries. From large-scale accident
investigations, to design evaluations of off-shore structures,
our engineers and scientists provide clients with insight
to address issues related to all mechanical systems including
aircraft and marine systems.
With
experience analyzing thousands of failures of all types, Exponent
brings a unique perspective to the design process. Our Risk
Management and Reliability staff provides services in the
areas of industrial hazard assessment, mitigation, and prevention.
We employ a variety of risk evaluation techniques to complement
the use of sophisticated structural mechanical and materials
models for industrial systems and equipment. Our scientists
gather risk-related data to provide estimates of critical
future risk. This information is useful in assessing potential
problem areas related to facility or process functions.
For
the chemical and petroleum industries, we offer risk management
services to address the storage, handling, and processing
of toxic or flammable materials. We perform safety and hazard
evaluations, environmental impact and consequence analyses,
and quantitative risk assessments. The output of these analyses
enables clients to identify the major risk contributors as
well as to identify/assess the potential value of alternative
improvement actions.
Exponent is a recognized leader in providing engineering
consulting services to the energy sector. Recent power plant
development assistance projects in Eastern and Central Europe
highlight our decades of research and wealth of experience
in power plant systems operation and maintenance management.
We provide our clients with an in-depth understanding of local
markets and the needs of the investor/operator community.
Exponent
addresses mechanical design issues with a multidisciplinary
approach. Our experience and breadth of knowledge provide
our clients with solutions that are objective and withstand
rigorous scrutiny. The hallmark of Exponent's reputation is
based on our ability to mobilize resources expeditiously and
efficiently to provide independent and scientific investigations.
