How it works
The user can see where they are by looking at the map on the hand-held display. Their GPS coordinates are automatically displayed on the map and routed to other team members via the integrated data/voice radio. The user can also instantly see where their team-members are located. Voice communications are activated by pressing a button on the side of the unit. The user can ‘draw’ on the screen to create a navigation overlay that can be sent wirelessly to other team members. In this way, the group can operate more effectively, even when they cannot physically see each other.

Border Patrol Scenario
The Border Patrol Agents often work in the field at night, searching for people illegally entering the U.S. The work is difficult due to darkness and inability to coordinate the patrol’s movements. Current voice radio technology is inadequate because Agents can become disoriented in the field and cannot readily determine where other members of the patrol are located.

With the PockeTrac™, each patrol member moves in a coordinated way where everyone is aware of each other’s location. When the spotter encounters another group moving in the distance, he can refer to his map to determine if they are part of the patrol. If they are not, he sends a digital overlay showing the target group’s position to the other patrol members. He supplements the patrol member’s map display by using the voice communications capability to direct them as they approach the target. The patrol moves quickly to the target position and apprehends the suspects.
