Dr. Lu specializes in the areas of optoelectronics, optics, laser physics, semiconductor material synthesis, nano-fabrication, and characterization. He has extensive experience in nano-material synthesis with metal-organic chemical vapor deposition technique, nano-device fabrication in cleanroom environment, optical lithography, and electron beam lithography mask designs in the fabrication of micro-lens devices, and advanced characterization technique such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and micro-photoluminesence. His also worked on theoretical analysis of laser physics in nanoscale and simulation of novel laser optical cavity. Dr. Lu’s other diverse technical experience includes optical fiber modeling, optical waveguide design and measurement, solar cell design, bio-MEMS power supply implementation and PDMS bonding strength test.

Dr. Lu’s project experiences during his Ph.D. research includes integration of telecommunication wavelength nanolasers with transistor chips and silicon photonics circuits, to boost computer processor speed by on-chip optical interconnects, fabrication of a high contrast grating micro-lens to enable compact integration with cameras, microscopes and telescopes, and technical consultancy for patent litigation matters.
