Blake Rains
Senior Associate
Construction Consulting
  • Oakland

Mr. Rains has over 6 years of hands-on construction experience and most recently worked for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, Central Subway Project, performing contract modifications, change analyses, field inspections, and document control. Beyond direct project-related tasks, Mr. Rains also streamlined the production of weekly meeting documents, providing efficiencies of hundreds of hours over the project life.

While at the University of California, Berkeley Mr. Rains focused on Lean construction techniques and operations analyses, two areas in which his field construction experience suggests have incredible room for improvement. As such, value stream maps and operations analyses were performed for doors, frames, and hardware installation of two medical facilities, as well as a supply chain simulation and analysis to investigate the impacts of materials changes and modifications to supplier relationships.

Mr. Rains was inspired to pursue an education in engineering and construction management after having worked in various craft trades for several years, principally carpentry. This background provides a boots-on-the-ground understanding of the limitations of academia in the construction field, while simultaneously highlighting an increased need for process improvement to help align the industry with the rapid advancements in other fields.
