Dr. Stranic’s background in mechanical engineering includes knowledge of chemically reacting systems, fluid mechanics, and spectroscopy. During his graduate studies at Stanford University, Dr. Stranic investigated the chemical kinetics of novel biofuels using laser absorption techniques. He also developed a variety of experimental tools that enable improved combustion studies, such as a laser based method for measuring acetylene concentrations at high temperatures, as well as an isotopic labeling technique for real-time monitoring of combustion processes. In addition to his extensive experience in developing and implementing laboratory-based sensing tools, Dr. Stranic has substantial knowledge of simulating chemically reacting systems.

As an undergraduate student at Cornell University, Dr. Stranic performed research in materials science, where he led a project to test the feasibility of using a newly developed material in helmet applications. He also performed research in microfluidics while studying cell sorting using dielectrophoresis. While working at Cuno Inc. (now 3M Purification Inc.), Dr. Stranic designed and developed experimental programs to test improvements in filtration materials. He gained significant experience investigating the reliability of manufacturing processes.

Dr. Stranic served as a teaching assistant in both the theoretical and laboratory courses on chemical kinetics at Stanford University. In addition, he performed peer reviews of journal articles in Combustion and Flame and Energy & Fuels.
