Steven A. Rundell, P.E.

Senior Engineer

Biomechanics

Professional Profile

Mr. Rundell has a rare combination of experimental and computational modeling experience. He has spent an extensive amount of time at Michigan State’s Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratories performing injurious impact testing on soft tissues. Mr. Rundell uses this knowledge to determine the mechanisms of injuries resulting from various types of accidents.

Additionally, he has thorough knowledge of state-of-the art computer modeling techniques. Mr. Rundell uses his computational skills at Exponent to generate finite element models often intended to supplement FDA applications for novel medical devices. He has experience generating these types of models for a wide variety of orthopaedic implants. Specifically, he has developed a working computer model of the entire lumbar spine, which is currently being used to evaluate the effect of total disc replacement surgery on spinal biomechanics.

Mr. Rundell is currently completing a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering at Drexel University.
