Janine gained her Masters degree in Applied Toxicology from the University of Surrey (Robens Institute) in 1999, during her 10 year role as a toxicologist working for a European manufacturer and supplier of Contract Manufactured and Private Label products for the household and professional cleaning/hygiene markets. Subsequently Janine worked for 5 years as a consultant and cosmetic product safety assessor in the Consumer Goods and Retail division of a global inspection, verification, testing and certification company. Janine has broad experience working within manufacturing, product development and training. In 2014 Janine became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology.

Janine has worked with trade associations contributing to industry discussions and responses to government on new and existing legislation affecting product safety. She worked actively with the British Aerosols Manufacturers Association (BAMA) Scientific Committee, British Association for Chemical Specialties (BACS) Perfume Working Group, UK Cleaning Products Industry Association (UKCPI) (formerly the Soap and Detergent Industries Association (SDIA)) Human Safety Panel on issues such as Indoor Air Quality, adverse reactions, alternatives to animal testing, skin reactions to detergents and product reclassification.

An integral part of Janine's role at Exponent is to offer Responsible Person service, Cosmetic Product Safety Reports (CPSRs), Toxicological Risk Assessments (TRAs), label/pack copy reviews and Product Information File (PIFs) management, in compliance with EU Cosmetic Regulations 1223/2009, as well as providing advice on other aspects of personal care claims, supply chain, manufacture, sustainability and international compliance.
