Ms. Hill gained her honours degree in chemistry from the University of Durham in 2005 and then went on to work as a consultant specialising in chemical risk assessment under the Control of Substance Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations.

In 2007, while working for an international metals association, Ms. Hill assumed responsibility for REACH registration of tin metal on behalf of a consortium of manufacturers and importers.
