Dr. Ameli has multidisciplinary expertise in surface and subsurface hydrology, construction consulting, and forensic cost engineering. He has expertise in analysis and design of stormwater conveyance systems, flood hazard evaluation and mitigation as well as investigation of the effects of wildland fires on hydrological characteristics of watersheds. Additionally, he has extensive research background in study and numerical modeling of underground fluid flow with focus on flow through fractured rocks and porous media. As a construction consultant and forensic cost engineer, he has extensive professional experience performing estimation of construction costs, analysis of delays and loss of productivity, construction claims investigations, and analysis of the effects of wildfires on labor and material cost fluctuations.

Dr. Ameli’s doctoral research focused on deformation of fracture apertures under coupled effects of chemical and mechanical processes. He performed high-resolution fracture aperture mapping utilizing optical profilometry and image processing techniques. He studied brittle failure of fracture surfaces under normal stress and developed a numerical model to simulate the change in hydraulic properties of cap-rocks at CO2 sequestration fields in North America.

As a cost engineer, Dr. Ameli has experience with estimation of construction costs utilizing industry standard pricing tools and market research, assessment of reasonableness of construction proposals (scope of repairs and associated unit costs), and calculation of depreciation values associated with various structural components and finishes in commercial and residential dwellings.
