Ms. Athanasopoulou has over 10 years of experience in design and execution of heavy civil, marine, and infrastructure projects. She has worked with multinational firms in Europe and the Middle East as a structural and project controls engineer on the delivery of remarkable large-scale infrastructure projects.

Working in a fast-paced environment, Ms. Athanasopoulou has led the engineering design and coordination of projects and offers a breadth of knowledge in construction project management, project controls, estimation, and planning. She has been involved in all stages of projects, from feasibility studies to close-out, having comprehensive knowledge and understanding of engineering, construction methods, budgeting, resource allocation, contract bid and award, contract management, and project management.

Her experience as an Exponent consultant includes project management and project control services. Ms. Athanasopoulou is managing electric transmission interconnection and relocation projects and is responsible for the project planning and execution, as well as developing and managing the budget and resource-loaded schedules. She is also responsible for monitoring the financial and overall health of large capital infrastructure programs such as the Electrification of Caltrain and the California High Speed Rail interconnection project and works alongside the program and project management teams and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Prior to Exponent, Ms. Athanasopoulou was in several leadership roles in the conceptual and detailed design of various structures, such as ports and terminals, power generation stations, and bridges. She worked in the Marine and Infrastructure team of WorleyParsons in Dubai as a senior structural engineer, leading the structural design of numerous projects in Saudi Arabia and was part of the PMC (Project Management Consultant) team providing advisory services for terminal projects in Oman. Ms. Athanasopoulou has also worked for Archirodon Construction in Dubai in the project controls team for offshore terminals projects. There, she prepared multi-year budgets and resource-load forecasts, developed earned value calculations and KPIs, drafted monthly invoices to clients, and reviewed technical bid evaluations. She has also worked on the design of Dubai’s port expansion project for tendering purposes. Ms. Athanasopoulou led the design coordination of a mega water retaining and power generation station and was the key point of contact between various subcontractors of the project while working for Arteliagroup (Sogreah Gulf). She evaluated bids and provided recommendations for contract award to the client and supported the client team during construction and project closeout.

Project Experience

Electric Utility Work – Manage several electric transmission interconnection and relocation projects from planning to execution and develop financial forecasting, project schedules, and project status reports. Provide project and program control services, monitoring monthly project and program level status updates, contract spend, and KPIs reports. Understand and explain budget and schedule variances and communicate and escalate risks to clients and management.

Port-Marine and Infrastructure – Lead design engineer for various structures, such as pumping stations, piled seawater intakes, and outfalls of Jazan refinery in Saudi Arabia. Part of the PMC (Project Management Consultant) team, prepared various proposals, budgets, and engineering schedules. Client interfacing, advisory on engineering solutions, and problem solving throughout construction.

Project Controls, Construction – Responsible for weekly and monthly progress, review of the project contract, development of KPIs, preparation of quarterly budgets and invoicing (IGD-E1 Das Island joint-venture contract amount $485 million).

Structural Design – Coordination and oversight of structural sub-consultant on power generation station project. Structural detailed design of several marine structures, overpasses, underpasses, and retaining walls and bridges with precast beams.

Construction supervision – Managed the construction of private residential buildings. Coordination and supervision of trades and client interface.
