Dr. Elizabeth Lam is a PhD chemist with extensive experience in food testing methods, computational analysis and analytical chemistry. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the study of metal complexes in organic light-emitting diode (OLED) applications via experimental and computational methods. She is also experienced in analytical testing of pesticide residues, veterinary drug residues and various organic contaminants in food and water.

Dr. Lam’s doctoral study involved extensive application of computational techniques such as density functional theory (DFT) and time dependent DFT (TDDFT) to study various molecular properties. She is also experienced in chemical synthesis and chemical characterization techniques, such as spectroscopy (UV-Vis and FTIR), electrochemistry (cyclic voltammetry), X-ray crystallography, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Lam was an R&D chemist at a commercial testing laboratory. She is well-versed in food testing methods as well as development and validation practices, including sample preparation (QuEChERS), chromatographic/spectrometric analysis (GC-MS and LC-MS), and accreditation practices (HOKLAS and ISO 17025).
