Dr. Marzooghi is an environmental scientist with nine years of experience in water quality and wastewater treatment. During her Ph.D., she developed a phototoxic target lipid model to predict phototoxicity of parent and alkylated PAHs, mixtures, and petroleum. The model has been used to assess the risk and damage of oil spills to aquatic life. She is an author and coauthor of scientific papers on aquatic toxicology, including modeling and experimental evaluation of the phototoxic effect of unsubstituted and substituted PAHs as well as neat and weathered oil to aquatic species. She has also published a critical review of efforts to model the phototoxicity of PAHs.

Dr. Marzooghi was involved in modeling and experimental work for designing an integrated system for biosolids treatment and water reclamation. The system involved pathogen-free moisture transfer from biosolids through laminated hydrophobic membranes. This system is used in container-based sanitation (CBS) systems for biosolids treatment. Her published research involves pathogen and mass transport, biosolids treatment, and membrane separation processes. She also has 4 years’ industry experience in process design of various water and wastewater treatment systems.

Through her modeling experiences in solving environmental problems, Dr. Marzooghi has programming skills in R, FORTRAN, MATLAB, and VBA.
