Dr. Mock specializes in structural analysis and design, reinforced concrete behavior, engineering specifications, tornado shelter construction, and development of numerical modeling tools. His structural engineering experience has focused on commercial structures of steel, masonry, reinforced/post-tensioned concrete, cold-formed metal framing, and wood. He also has geotechnical engineering experience including retaining wall analysis and design, deep foundation soil-structure interaction, foundations on highly expansive soils, and shallow footings. His experience in construction administration provides understanding of errors and omissions in contract documents, means and methods of construction, and resolving common problems in fabrication, placement, and erection.

In his prior experience, Dr. Mock served as a structural project manager and engineer of record for a wide variety of building projects involving new construction, building additions, building renovations, and condition assessments. His projects included low- to high-rise buildings used for commercial office, educational facilities, healthcare, hotel, infrastructure, and multi-family housing. His engineering responsibility included building analysis, design detailing, coordination with other disciplines, development of construction drawings, specification writing, and construction administration services. His project management responsibilities also included scope development, concept design, budgeting, scheduling, and peer review.

Dr. Mock holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois where his research investigated the behavior of non-planar concrete walls used as the lateral force-resisting system of buildings in regions of high seismicity. His investigation included three large-scale experimental tests of C-shaped walls to identify cracking, stiffness, damage mechanisms, propagation of damage, energy dissipation, and drift capacity. Numerical studies using non-linear finite element analysis were also developed to study the cracked response of reinforced concrete in cyclic biaxial loading conditions.
