Trained in polymer chemistry, Dr. Oar combines fundamental chemistry knowledge with extensive experience in materials formulation and processing. He specializes in the testing, manufacturing, and failure analysis of polymer materials with hands-on product development experience in the consumer electronics, automotive, medical, aerospace, telecommunications, data communications, and energy distribution sectors.

Dr. Oar has experience formulating and testing adhesives, gels, mastics, greases, elastomers, thermally and electrically conductive materials, optical adhesives, foams, liquid thermosetting materials, as well as engineering thermoplastics. Prior to joining Exponent, he spent eight years at TE Connectivity working with these materials for electronic applications including antennas, electronics bonding and packaging, optical underfills, sealing of fiber optic and electrical connections, fingerprint and touch sensors, electronics potting and thermal management, as well as automotive sensors and wire termination.

He has developed a number of products which utilize industrial processes such as roll-to-roll coating/printing, liquid dispensing, screen printing, and polymer injection molding. He is a co-inventor on patents in the areas of conductive inks, roll-to-roll printed and electron beam welded electrical contacts, liquid injection molded fiber optic components, flame retardant gels, and silicones.
