Dr. Okafor's core discipline is in chemical engineering with a focus in biofluid mechanics. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2016. His research focused on the in vitro evaluation of cardiac performance in the presence of cardiovascular diseases. It involved the development of a multimodal left heart simulator and the utilization of experimental fluid mechanic-derived metrics for the stratification of various heart valve diseases.

Dr. Okafor's area of expertise is in the design of cardiovascular medical device testing platforms, medical device testing, and medical image processing. He is experienced in steady and pulsatile flows. Analytical techniques include particle image velocimetry (standard, stereo, micro, and high-speed), flow visualization, and high-speed photogrammetry.

Dr. Okafor has been involved in Biomedical engineering research since 2011. Prior to joining Exponent, he was a research assistant in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering and the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology.
