Dr. Hoe Seng Ooi has 20 years of experience working in the consumer appliances, oil & gas and automotive industries. Dr. Ooi specializes in electrical machines and motion control. He has extensive technical and project management experience in the design and development of electromagnetic devices from sub-kW to several hundred kW. His past projects include the development of electric motors, linear actuators and motion control systems for consumer vacuum cleaners, downhole drilling tool, flywheel energy storage system, electric mobility and powertrain systems.

Dr. Ooi is familiar with product development engineering processes and tools such as electromagnetic FEA, model-based simulation, thermal modelling & simulation, data acquisition & test system and embedded software development.

Dr. Ooi previously worked in the UK & Middle East and took on several technical leadership roles in engineering and R&D in reputable organizations such as Williams F1, Dyson and Schlumberger. Prior to joining Exponent, he was the Head of Vehicle Engineering at Circ and was responsible for developing e-scooters for ride-sharing in the micromobility industry. The scooters have been deployed in over 30 major cities in Europe and the Middle East. Dr. Ooi has also worked in the electric vehicle and autonomous vehicle industries where he led multi-disciplinary technology development teams in Hong Kong. He has participated in pilot tests of autonomous cargo conveyance vehicles at Hong Kong International Airport.
