Dr. Rapoport specializes in fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials, and mechanical design. His experience spans across a wide range of industries and length scales, from assuring flow of viscous crude oil in pipelines to designing mechanisms with tolerances down to a few microns. In addition, Dr. Rapoport has more than seven years of experience working in the defense and energy industries. His defense related projects focused on design evaluation of various systems such as precise electro-opto-mechanical systems and armor for lightweight vehicles. In his work in the energy industry, he has written image processing software and used analytical modeling to understand the behavior of crude oil under a rapid heat pulse. Dr. Rapoport combines an experimental approach with analytical validation and finite element analysis to perform design and root-cause analyses.

Dr. Rapoport received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from MIT where he worked on several projects in collaboration with US-based and international industrial partners. Projects included: foam prevention in bio-reactors, improving the performance of viscous flow batteries, mitigating boiling-induced fouling for enhanced oil recovery, analysis of thermocapillary effects in a downhole high pressure high temperature sensor, and preventing wax formation in oil pipelines.
