Jeffrey P. Rouleau, Ph.D.
Senior Manager
Biomedical Engineering
Chicago - Downtown

Dr. Rouleau has over 25 years of experience in medical device product development from feasibility assessments of early concepts to post-market analysis of retrieved clinical components. His specialties include: biomaterials, biomechanics, electrical stimulation of neural and muscular tissues, drug delivery, and surgical navigation. He has provided technical expertise for matters including due diligence, domestic and international regulatory submissions, risk management, product liability, quality systems, and intellectual property matters. His knowledge of preclinical testing has allowed him to hold leadership positions in ASTM and ISO for the development of standards and guides pertinent to the delivery of medical therapies.

Dr. Rouleau has managed development from the project, program, and portfolio levels. He has led programs with both waterfall and agile design control philosophies. In addition to product development leadership under appropriate design controls, he has also guided construction and staffing of an Asian R&D center for a large US-headquartered multi-national medical device company.

Dr. Rouleau’s research interests include evaluation of the response to therapies from a sub-cellular to a whole organ level. Products evaluated under his leadership include spinal fusion devices, spinal non-fusion devices, total hips, total knees, stents, drug delivery pumps, trauma products, disposable instruments, reusable instruments, tumor treatment systems (radiofrequency, laser, and cryoablation), surgical navigation systems, pacemakers, ICDs, and neurostimulators. His work has been presented in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and published in leading journals for global advancement of medical product science.
