Dr. Shaw is a Biomedical Engineer with expertise in MRI and optical imaging. In the realm of MRI, his focus areas include MRI physics, protocol development, artifact reduction algorithms, real-time MRI, compressed-sensing MRI, and constrained image reconstruction. In the realm of optical imaging, Dr. Shaw has particular expertise in solving forward and inverse problems encountered in diffuse optical tomography and photoacoustic tomography, including measurement optimization, finite element method (FEM), and computational modeling.

Dr. Shaw completed his Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) under faculty advisor Phaneendra K. Yalavarthy. His thesis focused on developing sparse recovery based diffuse optical and photoacoustic image reconstruction methods to mitigate non-linearity and ill-posedness arising due to the intense scattering of near-infrared-light waves in tissue. During the summers of his Ph.D. program, Dr. Shaw interned at the Institute of Structural Mechanics at Bauhaus University, Germany, where he performed Isogeometric Analysis (IGA) for diffuse optical tomography. Prior to joining exponent, Dr. Shaw was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of California Davis and Medical University of South Carolina, where he was involved in developing 4D MRI to evaluate wrist kinematics and applying advanced diffusion MRI techniques to investigate microstructural properties of the brain.
