Dr. Shuggi has expertise in mental workload, attention, learning, and motor performance. Her work focuses on optimizing human performance while minimizing mental workload through the integration of automation. She has extensive knowledge of human-machine interactions, which she applies to a wide range of fields. Dr. Shuggi has experience with multidisciplinary teams using diverse methods to address complex research questions. She has experience with human subjects, experimental design and data collection, as well as the analysis of cortical dynamics and behavioral data. Since joining Exponent, she has applied her expertise to driver distraction, advanced driver assistance systems, automated vehicles, and roadway crashes.

Prior to joining Exponent, Dr. Shuggi completed her PhD in Neuroscience and Cognitive Science at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her interdisciplinary background led her to research focused on the analysis of cognitive demands, psychological factors and performance through a unique head-motion controlled task. Specifically, she examined the cognitive-psycho-motor processes underlying human-robot team dynamics. As a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Dr. Shuggi focused on the analysis of individual human performance as well as human team performance.
