Mr. Shurtz has experience in impact testing and Dynamic Finite Element Analysis of impact structures. Through his research, he has gained experience in setup of strain gauge based data acquisition systems, processing of strain gauge data, setup and execution of sled tests, and development of FEA models. He also has experience working with and developing full-size computational vehicle models for use in simulation of automotive crash tests. Mr. Shurtz has a background in diagnosis and repair of automotive systems and holds current Automotive Service Excellence certifications for vehicle repair.
Prior to joining Exponent, Mr. Shurtz held a position at the Cranfield Impact Centre, where he tested motorsports vehicle products including component-level testing of restraints.
