Dr. Stephenson is a pesticide residues and dietary exposure specialist with over 10 years’ experience gained working with the UK regulatory authority, the Chemicals Regulation Directorate (CRD) of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). In her previous role, Dr. Stephenson had primary responsibility for maximum residue levels (MRLs) and was the UK’s technical representative on the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCoPAFF) and Residues Working Group. She also sat as the UK representative on the European Council Codex Alimentarius Working Party and has been the UK national expert at EFSA peer review meetings for active substance authorization and the review of MRLs. Dr. Stephenson has significant experience evaluating metabolism and residue data packages, identifying data gaps and study deficiencies as well as preparing regulatory dossiers.
Dr. Stephenson is an expert in the deterministic and probabilistic dietary risk assessment of pesticides, having developed and maintained risk assessment models used by the UK regulatory authority and participated in EFSA and EU-funded projects on developing risk assessment methodologies. These projects included the EU-FP7 ACROPOLIS Project on cumulative and aggregate exposure. In her former role, Dr. Stephenson was responsible for the evaluation of all types of regulatory submission and provided the lead residues input for a number of global workshare active substances. She has an excellent understanding of global regulatory procedures in the areas of residues and MRLs and has contributed to the development of key EU guidance including fish metabolism, crop field trials and pheromones. Dr. Stephenson was also involved in reporting for and developing the UK monitoring programme, run by the Defra Expert Committee on Pesticide Residues in Food (PRiF), assessing dietary risk and compliance with MRLs, as well as sitting on the Analytical Sub Group (ASG). She has provided bespoke training as well as assisting in drafting national legislation on MRLs and compliance-monitoring in many EU Member States and candidate countries.
