Dr. Torelli specializes in electrochemical processes and materials characterization related to energy storage, corrosion science, and polymeric materials. He has extensive experience in the study of the surface phenomena that control reactivity such as surface oxidation, dissolution, and passivation. Since joining Exponent, Dr. Torelli has worked on failure analysis and root cause analysis of consumer products including electronics, batteries, polymer fractures, and medical devices.

Prior to joining Exponent Dr. Torelli conducted research in the fields of electrochemistry, materials science, and polymeric materials. He is an expert in numerous materials characterization techniques as well as electrochemical testing. As a National Science Foundation (NSF) Fellow at Caltech, he conducted research on the discovery of catalysts capable of converting carbon dioxide into chemically useful products. In addition, Dr. Torelli worked with electropolymer coatings as well as developed wafer applied materials for microelectronic applications.
