Dr. Yasaei has a background in mechanical engineering and specializes in experimental thermal and electrical characterization of materials and interfaces at nanoscale, with applications in semiconductor industry, product manufacturing, and energy conversion/storage systems. He is also expert in nanomaterial synthesis, nanofabrication, and characterization through a wide suite of microscopy and spectroscopy techniques. At Exponent, Dr. Yasaei has assisted with the investigation and root cause analysis of industrial fires and explosions as well as various mechanical equipment and system failures.

In his postdoctoral experience and graduate studies, Dr. Yasaei developed custom-designed thermometry platforms and utilized state-of-the-art thermography techniques to investigate power dissipation and failures of operating nanoscale devices as well as nanostructured solid-state thermoelectric materials. He has also developed advanced nanomaterials through scalable techniques such as chemical vapor deposition (CVD), solution processing for application in chemical and environmental sensors, and electrochemical catalysis for energy conversion and storage systems (such as CO2 conversion, H2 evolution, and lithium oxygen batteries).

Dr. Yasaei has extensive experience in material synthesis and nanofabrication techniques such as chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD – APCVD – PECVD – HDPCVD), chemical vapor transport (CVT), atomic layer deposition (ALD – PEALD), physical vapor deposition (evaporation and sputtering), wet processing, sonication, centrifugation, film processing, electron-beam lithography (EBL), photolithography, mask-less lithography, focused ion beam (FIB) and plasma etching. He is also proficient in several microscopy and spectroscopy techniques including atomic force microscopy (AFM), conductive AFM, scanning thermal microscopy (SThM), IR microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), x-ray diffraction (XRD), electron back-scattering diffraction (EBSD), UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy, and dynamic light scattering (DLS).
