Reservoir & Levee Breach Modeling
Sudden and unexpected flooding resulting from the breach of a reservoir, levee, or large-volume tank can have dire effects on downstream communities and ecosystems. Extreme storm events or seismic activity are examples of incidents that can trigger breaches of reservoirs, levees, or tanks. Exponent’s water resources team is skilled in performing analyses of the risks associated with potential breaches to develop an understanding of the expected flow paths, velocities, and flood depths that could result. We utilize state-of-the-art tools and methods to develop numerical models to simulate breaches and use visualization and animation tools to graphically illustrate the results of our analysis.
